Virtual Coffee {3}

Photobucket

Here we are, Tuesday, and it’s coffee time. No long preamble today, I’m going to jump right in. If we were really having coffee, I would tell you that my day got turned around this morning. You hear the tv in the background? Yeah, it’s Madagascar 2, again. The Boy is home with a temperature, not a high temperature, and he’s showing no other signs of illness, but still he won’t eat anything so I decided to keep him home and avoid the whole throwing up in the car scenario that would’ve inevitably ensued had I decided to take him to daycare.
We also decided to try and send the girl to daycare without him, needless to say that lots of drama followed. After several phone calls and two pretty severe crying bouts she seems to have calmed down, but I have to go get her early, so coffee will be brief. Sigh.

I would also tell you that coffee without my usual cookie, or cupcake, or banana bread just isn’t doing anything for me. Why I wasn’t born with an abnormally fast metabolism is simply beyond me. So here’s a picture of what I wish I were eating, if I hadn’t started the stupid diet yesterday.

I may possibly be spending altogether too many hours looking at food that I can’t eat. But enough crying over spilled chocolate, if we were having coffee today, I would ask you if you were reading anything good, cause I can’t seem to find anything that captures my fancy. Just so you know, I like series, nothing too sentimental, vampire stories are fine but nothing too gory cause ever since I had kids I can’t read or watch anything violent. I’ve become fainthearted! I’m just looking for something light and fun, possibly funny, ideally well written.

You want to know something shameful about me? Every single time I read, anything, whether it be a book, a blog, a magazine article, a newspaper, I edit in my mind. I edit punctuation (pretty arrogant of me, since you may have noticed my own punctuation is not exactly stellar), I rewrite sentences, I exchange words for synonyms I deem more fitting. I annoy the crap out of myself and yet I cannot stop. It’s a compulsion.

There, now your turn, do you have any thoroughly annoying habits even if you’re only annoying yourself?
Ok all done, see coffee with no treats makes for a poor and quick coffee indeed! Now go visit our hostess Amy, I’m sure she’s got something good to eat.

  1. Uhm, I'm quite certain that my annoying habits are annoying to all those around me, not just me. I am reading Keith Richard's Life, but it doesn't seem like something you would be in the mood for now. I usually don't suggest Italian reads, but I have been meaning to tell you to read the blog nonsolomamma. She is a journalist and has three boys. They have already published two books from her blog. She is really funny and writes very well. Check her out, on line or on page. Ok, you are probably already picking the girl up now or your coffee has gotten cold, so see you soon again.

  2. Mmm...those cupcakes look scrumptious. Diets are so annoying, aren't they?

    This is going to be a little ironic, but since you asked...one annoying habit I have is that when people tell me something about themselves (especially it's a problem they're dealing with), I almost always relate it to something that has happened to me. I hate doing that because I'm afraid people will think I'm just self-centered, or not paying attention to them, or that I just want to talk about myself. But really, I'm just trying to say, "yeah I can understand how you're feeling right now". Or "this worked for me, maybe it can help you? or give you ideas?" But I can't stop myself. The words come out of my mouth before I think, and before I know it, I'm just in it. {sigh}

  3. I have no annoying habits since I am a perfect human being. Ha! How's that for an oxymoron? Or maybe just a plain moron. Have you read, "The Help," or "Remarkable Creatures"? What about, "Olive Kitteridge," or "I See You Everywhere". I must admit I loved, "Noah's Compass" and "Digging to America". Let me know if you want any more suggestions, I'm going to sneak off and have something full of carbs since I have one of those annoying fast metabolisms.

  4. sister, we must have been separated at birth or something crazy like that. my metabolism=covetingly slow. make sense? hope so. way to go with your diet! inspirational. ummm.......i can't watch/read/hear gory/torturous/creepy anything now that i have kids. and i grew up watching the poltergeist trilogy and stephen king films. in young elementary school. and editing? how i love to edit! whenever my husband emails me at work and there's a typo, i respond by obnoxiously pointing it out. so funny. : )

  5. My dear friend, you are so brave to have your coffee without any sweets and you are right, it really does not taste the same. I used to have something sweet with coffee in the mornings and specially on the weekends but I have cut that out.

    I too can relate to having become "fainthearted" after having kids, what is that about? Is that like a hormonal thing or something? Now that I have read about you and someone else that posted on your blog I am starting to wonder.

    I am not reading anything right now because I don't have time, how do you do it?

    Finally my friend, stop correcting all my grammatical errors :) I am sure there are plenty so for now, I hope they have kept you busy.

    I have to think about my annoying habit, but for now I can't think of one.

  6. Oh dear, I edit as I go too. Unfortunately many of my posts lately have been full of errors....pregnancy brain and what not haha.

    Not sure what kind of books you like, but a really good book I recently read was "The Distant Hours" by Kate Morton. Another, lighter, read is Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. I'm reading her second book right now "The Sugar Queen," and while they're not going to win any literary awards anytime soon, they're nice, relaxing reads.

    p.s. thanks for stopping by my blog today :) My daughter's actually feeling much better this afternoon...thank God!

  13. Thanks for the comment hon...sorry to make you homesick. :-(

    As for my annoying habit...well...I'd have to say I swear like a sailor sometimes. I've learned to censor myself by abreviating my swearing so now it's GD or WTF...not the best, but oh well.

    I also sympathize with the sweets...now that I've been on my little fitness, nutrition plan for over ten weeks, mama is CRAVING some cookies, cupcakes and dark chocolate. Thankfully the guilt and severe stomach cramps from eating all that junk prevent me from binging. :-)

    See you next week!

  14. Thanks for the coffee! And best wishes on the diet...I am currently avoiding mine, but I'm sure it will find me eventually. My most recent enjoyable read was "Good Hope Road" by Lisa Wingate. I'm am a huge Jane Austen fan, Emma is one of my favorites. I hope my punctuation was ok! :) HA! I do the same thing, very annoying especially when you find typos in books.

  15. Love, love, love this virtual coffee concept.
    Hate that there's nothing to nibble on ;P
    Still, coffee is coffee and I'm all ears!
    Also, glad everyone else is going through hell with their sick kids too...what a relief.

  17. I always want something sweet with my coffee too. There is something about that balance between the sweet, cut by the slight bitterness/strength of the coffee. But yeah I am with ya, if only we could just eat anything and everything!!

    I really liked the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" series, although it is not light, or funny. My mom really liked the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon...fun kind of romantic/adventure/time travel books. I read the first one and enjoyed it. You get sucked in and can get through pretty quick.
